Internal funding schemes
This is a summary of all other devolved funding schemes that could support your translational research projects, and the relevant contacts.
WT ISSF
Cross-faculty research consortia call.
These awards aim at fostering cross-faculty interdisciplinary biomedical research. The purpose is to pump-prime new activity that addresses the important biomedical problems, through collaboration between groups of principal investigators with distinctive skills, for major external funding.

MRC P2D
The fund aims to overcome the bottleneck to the establishment of new collaborations by supporting early interactions and knowledge exchange between industry and academic researchers. The competition is structured around two schemes, Relationship Incubator and Industry Secondment, and invites applications from across the biomedical field, including but not limited to:

BBSRC IAA
The IAA aims to strengthen knowledge exchange, support the translation/commercialisation of early-stage research and support imaginative and innovative approaches to impact delivery. All funded projects must be linked to BBSRC funded research and will be awarded through four schemes.

ESRC IAA
ESRC IAA funding is to support knowledge exchange with a range of sectors and publics and for activity relating to any area of social science research within the ESRC’s remit. Interdisciplinary projects with a major social science component are also eligible for funding.

EPSRC IAA
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has awarded The University of Manchester an additional £0.8M to deliver an Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) that aims to increase and accelerate the impact of EPSRC research outputs from the university through a range of knowledge exchange activities. All funded projects must be linked to EPSRC funded research. This fund supports a range of support mechanisms, from initial engagement and collaboration, through to commercialisation, with an aim to increase impact from our EPSRC research portfolio.

STFC
Flexible funding to support academics to take their STFC-funded ideas towards commercialisation through activities not currently supported by an STFC funding programme. The scheme supports the development of industrial collaboration and fosters opportunities for impact and commercialisation.

The Wellcome Trust has recently announced how it is changing the way in which it funds research to align with its new strategy, which aims to support science to solve the urgent health challenges facing everyone.
